There are nearly 2 weeks worth of songs on my iTunes. When I start my car, Bluetooth magically starts a random shuffle of all songs.
Some mornings I’m treated to Bing Crosby‘s White Christmas, PitBull’s Fireball Gordon Lightfoot’s Sundown, Prince’s 1999, Kanye West’s Golddigger, or Toby Keith’s Beer for my Horses.
What can I say? I like to start my day with a surprise.
This morning, on my way to work at the Naval Postgraduate School, the radio goddess blessed me with Soldiering On by Mary Gauthier.
This song is from an album called Rifles and Rosary Beads, which I recommend (in small doses if you want to be able to see while you’re driving).
It’s especially poignant for me now that I’ve spent time on campus, time on a ship, and time in a classroom with military service personnel.
EVERY SINGLE DAY, I work alongside incredible men and women who have dedicated their lives, and by extension, their families’ lives, to service of a greater good.
While public debate rages on and sometimes we are pressed to choose a lesser evil, it is helpful to step back and see the whole picture– and not the circus shown on a 50 inch screen.
We are bound to something bigger….
