The ‘Fn’ Key

For the uninformed, ‘Fn’ stands for FUNCTION.

Conjunction, junction, what’s your FUNCTION?

But before I delve too far into the ‘Fn’ blog, a few important facts:

  1. I hate switching to daylight savings time.
  2. I loathe the switch to daylight savings time.
  3. I despise leaving standard time.
  4. Windows 10 sucks rancid, raw Easter eggs because of it’s whimsical, unapproved updates.

I tried it. Twice.

I can’t function for a few days after switching to daylight savings time, and apparently neither can my laptop. Monday night I came home and my mouse had disappeared and the mousepad was not working.

I did what I always do when I don’t know how to do something, I texted my IT friend googled “mouse pad quit working,” and the first hit was Fn-F7. I must have hit this key combination at least 27 times.  Which didn’t work. So, then I downloaded and reinstalled the mouse drivers.  Twice.

Hell to the yes! I rebooted about Sith times.

I had the inner strength to face this problem today, and am deeply indebted to the Elves who came in yesterday and fixed my problem. This evening, with nothing other than a reboot, Fn-F7 worked. Occam’s Razor suggests that magic is the most logical answer.

But, since tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day and just in case it was Leprechauns, here’s an Irish Blessing– I’m 1/8 Murphy, which means that I can legally represent the people of Eire in these matters:

Everybody’s Irish on St. Paddy’s Day.
