Red-Letter Words

When I grew up a backwoods, country Baptist, my Bible had some words written in red– words spoken by Jesus himself.

That's What "The Man Said"

That’s What “The Man” Said

I seem to recall that the Pharisees and Sadduccees and I don’t know who all else decided to give Jesus a pop quiz on the 10 Commandments.  They asked:

WHICH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT?

The Man said, “The Greatest of these is LOVE.” Love the Lord with all you’ve got. And if there’s is anything left over, then love thy NEIGHBOR as thyself.

Whaaaa?

WHO IS MY NEIGHBOR?

Jesus answered this trick question with the parable of the Good Samaritan. Some unclean bacon-eater was foolish enough to travel alone to Damascus. I’m sure he deserved to be robbed and beaten, just like women wearing short skirts deserve….

I’m gonna sum this up in modern day language. Your neighbor is every-damn-body on this planet. Jesus said to treat lipstick wearing transvestites and soccer moms like yourself.

Because as you have done to the LEAST of these, you have done it to Jesus.

So if Jesus is the Reason for the Season, then do as he COMMANDED and

BE YE KIND, ONE TO ANOTHER.

And if you can’t be nice when exercising your 1st Amendment Right to free speech, then shut the hell up.

Jesus said so.
